WESTERN DELTA UNIVERSITY, OGHARA, INAUGURATES THE FIRST GOVERNING COUNCIL OF THE INSTITUTION.

History was made in Oghara, headquarters Ethiope West Local Government Area Delta State, on Saturday 20th September 2008, when the fledgling private University, located in the town, Western Delta University inaugurated its pioneer Governing council.

The Governing Council according to Western Delta University Law 2006 is the governing body of the University and is charged with the general control and superintendence of the policy, finances and property of the University, including its public relations. Parading seasoned academics, the Governing Councils is made up of the following:

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, Engr.(Chief) James Bukowho Erhuero, JP, mni, KSM, FNIM charged members of the Governing Council to use their wealth of national and international exposure to put the University on global recognition. He also told the audience that the emergence of the Council was in fulfillment of the Law establishing the University.

The inauguration ceremony attracted a lot of dignitaries. These were Chief James Onanefe Ibori, former Governor of Delta State, Professor Nureedeen Adegbite, former Chairman, Standing Committee on Private Universities( SCOPU) of the National Universities Commission (NUC), and Professors David Okpaku, Philip Kuale, Bruce Onobrekpeya, MFR, and Dr ( Mrs) Rose Aziza who were all members of the Project Implementation Committee (PIC) that midwifed the birth of the University. Others are Barrister Areyinka of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Wilson Omene, Chairman, Ethiope West Local Government, Mr Jude Fregene, Secretary, Ethiope West Local Government.
